Though the real estate market throughout Canada has experienced an overall slowdown, due to higher interest rates and tighter mortgage rules, that doesn’t mean certain market segments aren’t experiencing a bit of a boom. Right now in Calgary, new condominium construction is experiencing a bit of a renaissance. After a few hard years — primarily due to lost income from the 2012 decline in oil & gas and resource sector prices — the home of “The Stampede” is finally seeing a bit of activity in its new condo and multi-family development sector.
We examine 14 top developers in Calgary who are hard at work bringing 16 new projects — from studio apartments to luxurious penthouses — to the bustling Albertan city of Calgary.
For over 30 years, Truman has created exceptional properties all around Calgary and its surroundings. With over 50 awards to its name and a reputation for quality workmanship and attention to detail, Truman continues to impress.
In 2017, Truman built a four-storey structure with an 80-seat membership lounge for the Kensington Legion in 2017, now they are also working on a new eight-storey, 228 residences project located next to the Legion. But the developer isn’t stopping there.
Another Truman development in the works is Archer building — a new 39-unit, five-storey complex located in Calgary’s Sunnyside neighbourhood, at 922 Memorial Drive Northwest. It’s currently under pre-construction, but there aren’t many details already available tor the general public but to get those details you need to register on the developer’s website.
Finally, there’s Truman North, another pre-construction building that boasts 446 units located at Skyview Ranch Road. Just like Archer, details are available if you register at Truman’s dedicated site.
La Caille’s story began in Calgary back in 1982, as a fine dining establishment located on the banks of the Bow River in Eau Claire. La Caille restaurant hosted numerous high profile events over the years, such as a cocktail party for former U.S. President Bill Clinton and the victory party of the 1989 Stanley Cup Champion Calgary Flames
In 1999, LaCaille officially transitioned into real estate development when it completed its first tower, the 18-storey Chateau LaCaille, and by 2005, LaCaille’s founder sold his restaurant and decided to focus exclusively on real estate development.
Three upcoming developments by LaCaille that are still under pre-construction and include LaCaille on 1st, Cambridge and Oxford Towers, and Kings on Fourth.

Though Remington has many industrial developments on the way, they also have a new townhouse development in the pre-construction phase. The Calais will be located in the Quarry Way neighbourhood in Southeast Calgary. As part of the larger Quarry Park development, that boasts more than 2,200 homes, The Calais will offer buyers 24 high-end bungalows.
FRAM Building Group and Slokker Real Estate Group

Trico Homes was founded in 1992 by a mechanical engineer called Wayne Chiu, who immigrated to Calgary from Hong Kong in 1982. Trico Homes is currently focusing in building properties on Coach Ridge, a community located in Coach Hill. Battistella Developments is a family run developer founded in 1980 by Jacqueline and Giovanni Battistella. Great Gulf is an award-winning developer, which was founded in 1975, and since then it has spread operations all over North America to become a major player in real estate development. Great Gulf designs, builds, and master-plans communities and high-rise condos and luxury homes. But it doesn’t just limit itself to residential real estate, Great Gulf has also built a multitude of office towers and shopping malls.
Highcliffe Riverfront is one of many developments Great Gulf is building within Canada. Highcliffe will be located on MacLeod Trail and 4th Avenue SE, in Downtown East Village. Memorial Drive is located in the desirable Kensington neighbourhood of Calgary. Memorial Drive will be a building composed of 93 homes, offering an amazing view of downtown Calgary, and the Bow River. The architecture will combine classic materials such as brick and black metal, along with modern ones such as Hardi-board and glass railings. The project is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2019.
Since its humble beginnings in 1955, Minto has adhered to the mentality that new developments shouldn’t be simply about creating a product to be sold as quickly as possible, but rather a space to create happy lives and comfortable office spaces. Though Minto has expanded operations throughout Canada and the U.S., they bring their philosophy with them wherever they build.
Minto’s upcoming development, Bridgeland, is a proposed 13-storey condo development that will offer 178 units. It will be located at 103 4th Street NE, allowing its residents to be close enough to downtown Calgary to be close to the action, but far away enough to enjoy a more peaceful experience. Ledcor Group Canada
Ledcor has a long, long history of industrial development, starting back in 1947 in the oil fields of Leduc, Alberta. Ledcor made a name for itself as a civil contractor by building highways, blasting rock and constructing supporting utilities such as pipelines. In the 1980’s, Ledcor diversified into seven construction divisions: building, civil, industrial, mining, pipelines, telecommunications, and highways, and saw a significant period of growth even during a severe economic downturn.
Today, Ledcor currently employs over 7,000 people across North America and continues its entrepreneurial growth with Cascata, a new condominium complex located at 25 Ave SW & Erlton St. SW in the Mission neighbourhood, in downtown Calgary. When it comes to creating new developments, Bosa Development is a big picture thinker. In partnership with Canada Lands Company, Bosa is developing Currie Lands, a massive mixed-use urban development in southwest Calgary, with around 2,500 homes, located at Flanders Ave. SW. It will be constructed in a former army base in an area of 80-hectare. Currie lands will provide space for housing, retail stores, park space and many other amenities for its residents.
Arris will be Bosa’s other major project in Calgary. Located in East Village at 6 Ave SE and 4 St SE, Arris will provide 500 units divided into two towers, and will serve as a focal point for businesses, art, culture and entertainment. The project is now under pre-registration, and details about early access opportunities are available after registration.
