Halloween is, without doubt, one of Canadians\u2019 favourite holidays. Just as October starts coming around the corner, people are already hanging up their Halloween decorations and carving pumpkins. It\u2019s no longer a one-day celebration but a whole month of spookiness, scares, and chilling experiences all around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Statista, North Americans spend more than $10 billion on Halloween only. Yes, you read that right. Over $10 billion on scary house decorations, creative costumes, trick or treats, and, of course, visits to our favourite fright: haunted houses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After last year\u2019s break and a whole year of planning, Vancouver<\/a> and the Lower Mainland is back at full throttle in 2021. If you\u2019re looking for gore, ghouls, ghosts, and spooky places, look no further! To help, here are the top spots and best Halloween haunted houses in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community Haunted Houses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re in the mood for some Halloween spooks in the neighbourhood, then you\u2019re in luck. While many of the attractions have been closed due to COVID, there are still plenty of Halloween attractions and scary community haunted houses in Vancouver you can visit this year. Remember that these are possible because Vancouverites share their enthusiasm for Halloween and gather to bring some excitement to the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Port Moody<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Anmore Manor<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

After being closed in 2020, one of the Tri-City Halloween favourites is back and ready to scare the living daylights out of visitors! While this home may appear like a normal, family abode throughout most of the year, every October it undergoes a massive transformation. This year you can expect the house to transform starting on October 23. At that point, the home turns into Anmore Manor, which is filled with scary stuff that will make your skin crawl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Private tours are also an option with previous arrangements with the caretakers of Anmore Manor. Located on 1151 Robin way in Anmore, BC, it\u2019s definitely one of the scariest places in Port Moody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Vancouver<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Haunt at Edgemont<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Dubbed as one of the best haunted houses in the Lower Mainland, The Haunt of Edgemont is a fantastic haunted house showcasing scary Canadian stories and myths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, the family that runs this mansion adds something new, so you can never know what you can expect when going there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, there were bodies wrapped in webbing all across the house and a giant spider welcoming you at the front. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, there were new monsters plus some aliens; in 2019, the spider made a big<\/em> return. In 2020, the house was closed down due to COVID restrictions but it’s open for 2021…and who knows what there?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belmont Haunted House<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Characterized by a yard cemetery on the street, scarecrows, clowns, and a whole house of scary features, this haunted house is a product of a family that loves Halloween and helping people in need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have invested more than $100,000 into Hollywood-style decorations, special effects, and displays for the sheer fun and enjoyment of the holiday. It\u2019s a spectacular display of Halloween amusement, but it\u2019s also not extremely scary, making it perfect for families (not very young children, though) and for first-timers that want to see if haunted houses are their thing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entry is by donation, and all proceeds go towards the Ronald McDonald House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This asylum-themed haunted house and the scary maze were created by avid horror-lovers Lisa and Gary Moran. It has been a local Halloween favourite for almost 30 years and has a whole crew of volunteers that love to scare people to the point of screaming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The outdoor maze is a great place to go with a group of friends and have a fun activity together while still being safe and following COVID guidelines. But be warned, it\u2019s not for the faint of heart and definitely not recommended for children under the age of 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*UPDATE:<\/strong> Due to recent COVID-19 preventive measures, the Reapers Haunted Attraction (i.e., the haunted house) will be closed down in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Langley<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re a fan of everything that makes Halloween scary, then head to Murrayville in Langley<\/a>, BC. This haunted house attraction offers more than 5,000 square feet of handcrafted horror. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s attraction features two events: \u201cCreepy Tours\u201d and \u201cMonsters come to life.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep in mind that most pieces in this haunted house are handmade by professional artists, including Chucky Doll, Frankenstein, Elvira, and many other horror favourites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capacity is limited, so make sure to grab your ticket if you want to see some really cool (and pretty creepy) handcrafted art pieces!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This family-owned farm turns from a lovely family-friendly Pumpkin Patch farm to a gruesome, terrifying farm of horrors during the night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three events are happening in 2021: Haunted Corn Maze, The Scariest Forest in Canada, and Pitch Black, the farm\u2019s staple Halloween event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s theme is based on circuses and carnivals in the 19th century and cursed settlers that have returned to drag trespassers down to the depths of hell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the name \u201cMaan Farms\u201d doesn\u2019t particularly send chills down your spine, stepping into it at night will definitely do. It\u2019s known as one of Lower Mainland\u2019s most extreme haunted attractions (especially the Pitch Black experience), so it\u2019s made only for the bravest who dare enter it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the Halloween event is called Earie Illusions. It\u2019s filled with high-end scare projections, spooky decorations, soundscapes, and startling special effects that will terrify visitors but will surely make them come back for more. They say that the Burnaby Village Museum\u2019s 10-acre venue has never been scarier. And the best part? No one knows what to expect…yet! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Formerly known as \u201cPotter\u2019s House of Horrors,\u201d visitors can now get scared by live actors and high-tech animations paired with digital sounds in the new and updated Cougar Creek House of Horrors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made for fans of horror movies, haunted houses, and the general macabre, this event features two custom-built haunted houses: Devil’s Descent and the haunted motel, Death Valley Inn. Both houses are included in the ticket price, so visitors can get twice the heart pumping and really get into that Halloween spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
