The idea was to offer remote-first workers the opportunity to find the best cities to set up their home office, given that working remotely allows anyone to work almost anywhere.

While 10 Canadian cities made the initial list, only five ranked highly in this new report — and the top spots were not claimed by the larger, more obvious municipalities such as Toronto or Vancouver.

Here are the top five cities in Canada for remote work:

1. Dieppe, New Brunswick

According to PCMag, Dieppe, NB is the top work from home city in Canada for 2021. The city has a population of about 27,300 and is one of the biggest French-speaking cities outside of Quebec.

Dieppe is a part of the Moncton metro area (primarily English speakers) and is known for having numerous parks and greenery spaces. It also has 55 kilometers of trails that makes it perfect for those who enjoy biking and hiking.

The lowest expense for gigabit broadband connectivity in the city is $112.95, while experts gave it an 83% rating for housing affordability.

2. Halifax, Nova Scotia

The second city of Canada that PCMag found to be sustainable for working from home is Halifax. The city has about 403,131 residents and a major economic center in the Atlantic part of the country.

It houses many government services, including private companies. According to the report, suburban areas such as Hackett’s Cove and Hubley are especially attractive to people deciding to live here.

In Hackett’s Cove, homes are especially affordable, with 87% of residents spending only less than 30% of their income on their housing. Halifax makes for a great place to stay for people who can do remote work from home.

3. Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, Newfoundland

Do you enjoy living by the sea in a small town where you can freely pursue your work? Then Logy Bay in Newfoundland may be the best choice in Canada.

This suburb in the north offers pure maritime living with beautiful beaches and rugged, winding roads. Although it is a small town, you can get to St. John’s in 10 minutes if you are looking for some city living experiences.

4. Quispamsis, New Brunswick

Considered the best place to live for those in Atlantic Canada, Quispamsis has many ideal parks, schools, and small businesses to visit. It is a well-known suburb of St. John, which provides a range of cultural and historical sites to explore.

Affordable housing in Quispamsis is rated at 89%, with the lowest cost for gigabit internet connectivity at $112.95.

5. Saint-Zotique, Quebec

The resort town of Saint-Zotique is located just one hour west of Montreal and is home to around 8,000 residents. Although it is a French-speaking town, you only have to drive for 20 minutes east or west to go to the more bilingual locales.

Real estate in the town is quite affordable for being a tourist destination, as 84% of residents pay less than 30% of their income for housing.

Best Work-From-Home Opportunities

If you have been stuck renting in major cities, these places may be suitable for your needs, especially for those with work from home opportunities.

Finding the cheapest gigabit broadband was integral to making it in this top remote work list, given the importance of a reliable, cost-effective online connection. It’s also why East Coast cities dominated the PCMag list. Broadband connections in other areas of the country were, by-in-large, much more expensive or not as reliable. When combined with the cost of real estate, particularly in areas such as Greater Vancouver or Greater Toronto, this made cities in these three provinces less than ideal for setting up new work-from-home offices.

That said, the final five Canadian cities to make it to the PCMag top cities for work-from-home are:

Ayr, Ontario

King, Ontario

Coaldale, Alberta

Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec

Olds, Alberta

While the top five most affordable Canadian cities are listed here, you can see the full list of 60 North American cities in the PCMag report.

[15089
["post-17301","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-places
["GET
