Home renovations always start with such big dreams. We spend hours pinning home decor ideas on Pinterest and saving on Houzz, only to have things go dreadfully sideways when the project begins. We’ve found 10 examples of 10 bad home improvement projects that prove that some renos need more than a little duct tape or a bit more caulking. Even simple home renovation projects<\/a> can go awry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Air In\u2026and Out<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Most contractors will tell you that air circulation is the key to keeping a home dry and temperate all year round. It’s one reason why we have two types of vents in our homes: Air out (where the heated or cooled air comes from the furnace or A\/C0 and an air in vent. The air in vent is where air in our house goes to be re-warmed or cooled unless, of course, the two types of vents are placed side-by-side allowing air to circulate independently without every really entering the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Well-Lit Shower<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As children, we learned electricity and water are not a great mix. While we can appreciate not wanting to bath in the dark, an electrical light socket and it’s switch placed virtually in the shower just seems like a poor renovation choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Double Gutter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Double-capped gutter? Yes! After all who needs a run off? As an added bonus, you\u2019ll be able to enjoy the cascading waterfall pouring off of your roof and gradually eroding your landscaping and your home’s foundation. What fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Sewer River<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A wood box to store sewage is a…bold choice. Although if that\u2019s the home’s foundation it\u2019s neatly tucked under there are some bigger problems than a wooden septic tank. It’s probably time to call the professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Porcelain Plunger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Got an extra toilet plunger? Why not turn it into a porcelain-like shower faucet trim?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Box Fan. Seriously<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s a box fan. There’s not really anything else going on here, except a box over a ceiling fixture. It’s a box fan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not sure how drain your gutter? Connect it to an old trumpet (which is connected to an old garden hose, which is connected to…you get the picture).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curb appeal is so important which is why it’s so important to pay attention to a home’s front entrance.
